Every year Walsall FC Community Programme goes from strength to strength. The programme was started in December 1989 by Mick Kearns, who now oversees the work carried out in his role as Community Manager. Mick began the scheme on his own but can now boast a workforce of 16 Community Coaches.
Adam Davy holds the role of Community Officer at the club. He joined the scheme in July 1992 as a trainee and has worked his way through the ranks.
Walsall FC is recognised as having one of the largest Community Schemes in the Football League. Their work takes them into at least 30 Schools in the Borough and sees approximately 15,000 children per year on a variety of activities. This is an increase from 3,000 per year when the scheme first started.
The activities carried out include:
As further proof of the high standards upheld by the scheme they have received the FA Charter Standard Award for the Holiday Courses they run. This award is given to Soccer Schools and Coaching Sessions that meet strict FA criteria to ensure the fun, health and safety of all participants. Sir Trevor Brooking, Head of Football Development at the FA, presented Mick and Adam with the award.
The Community Programme will continue to expand and increase the work it carries out in the Borough. As a registered charity any sponsorship or donations from local businesses will further help the growth of our department.
